Celebrating salmon
On 15 January, the salmon fishing seasonAngelsaisonfishing season opens on the River Tay in the Scottish Highlands. Traditionally, anglers meet on the river in towns and villages to celebrate the opening. The Tay is the longest river in Scotland, stretching 117 miles (188 kilometres) from Ben Lui in the far west to Dundee on the North Sea in the east. Thanks to its location in central Scotland, the Tay can be reached in about an hour by car from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.
