    Sharif Tabebordbar grew up watching his father’s physical health slowly get worse. His father had a muscle-wasting diseaseMuskelschwunderkrankungmuscle-wasting disease, but nobody knew how to treat it. Tabebordbar has spent his life finding a cureHeilmittel, -methodecure.
    He studied biology and joined a researchForschungresearch organization.     Recently, Tabebordbar made a discovery. In a paper published in the journal Cell in September 2021, he described how he has developed viruses that can deliver gene therapy directly to muscle cells without ending up in the liverLeberliver, which can harm patients.
    It is too late for the scientist to help his father, but Tabebordbar plans to keep working hard to prevent others from suffering. “It is amazingfantastischamazing that we achieved this,” he said, “but now we need to get to work. What’s next?”
